Is Citizen Journalism a threat or Challenge to Professional Journalism

IS CITIZEN JOURNALISM A THREAT OR CHALLENGE TO PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISM?

Citizen Journalism  can be defined  as the public democratically and actively taking part in the process of gathering and distributing information .
The idea behind citizen journalism is that people without professional journalism training can use the tools of modern technology and the global distribution of the Internet to create or argue  on their own or in collaboration with others.

But the question is , are citizen journalists work a threat to professional journalists?
I don't think citizen journalists are a threat to professional journalists.
This is mainly because, although professional journalism has its own critics or shortcomings, the critiscms of  citizen journalism far outweigh that of professionals.
And I also don't see anything wrong in the public taking part in reporting the news. Even some professional journalists agreed that citizen journalism is needed and good for our democracy. But still Citizen journalism has not over taken the professional journalism.

Professional organizations of media are monitored by some authority and they have rules and regulations that guides them in their work but these citizen journalists do not have that. So the extent to which these citizen journalists are responsible for their news could be a little bit dangerous, at the same time anyone can log into the Internet and report any kind of news, and this can also be dangerous as well.

Also,a professional journalist will not hide his identity, when he reports a news  because he knows he is responsible for whatever he says or writes, but  citizen journalists can hide their identity and write or report on anything and we may not know who  they are.

Professional journalists are educated on what they doing, they have been trained well. Citizen journalists may lack the necessary training needed for their work.
